No matter what service industry you are looking to hire someone in, you always hear that you should make sure to check a company’s references before making a decision. Though it may be common advice, that doesn’t make it any less valuable. This is especially true when it comes to hiring a Sacramento home remodeling contractor to do work on your property. Of course, a contractor you get references from is very likely to give you the names of past clients who will only say positive things about them. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give them a call anyway. If you just make sure to ask leading questions (as opposed to yes or no questions), you should still be able to garner plenty of valuable information that will help you make a decision on which contractor to hire for your project.
There are many helpful questions that you can ask a contractor’s references. Start with finding out what specific type of work the contractor did on their home, making sure it is in the same family as the work you are looking to have done. Then, you want to start asking more personal questions such as “What was it like to work with the company?” and “Where they always on time and true to their word?” You also may want to see if the contractor gave them a clear idea of the process, start to finish, that would be taking place on their property. Then, make sure they stuck to that plan and process. In general, some of the best questions involve how the contractor communicated with them. Make sure the company you are about to hire is clear and organized with the way they communicate, because the last thing you want is for them to do something to your home that you didn’t approve. And there’s no better way to find out how a Sacramento home remodeling contractor will communicate with you then asking some of their references.

TITLE: 9 Questions You Should Ask a Contractor’s References
NARRATION: Checking references can seem like a hassle, but it’s really an important step in the hiring process, so that you’re sure you get the right person. You want to make sure that what they’re promising you is in fact true.
When actually speaking with the references, be sure to ask open-ended questions. Don’t ask just yes and no questions, because then you’re really gonna get them talking, and you’ll pick up tidbits about the experience. Because, keep in mind, the contractor is probably giving you references that had a good experience. You’re just really looking for a bigger picture what it’s like to work with the contractor.
I think from time to time we’re gonna come across contractors we might choose to work with that have less experience than others. We’ve all started out in our life, but it’s important to understand what kind of experience they do have. Maybe they’re new in their business, but they worked at another company prior to that. So understanding that experience. Also, any formalized training they’ve had will give you insight as to their expertise in the field.
