When talking about their homes, most people tend to picture just what’s under the roof. But the truth is, taking full advantage of the rest of your property is a great way to fully maximize your home’s true potential. Depending on the size and shape of your property, you may have more or less options to do this. But don’t let this deter you from exploring all of your options for improving on your outdoor spaces. You might be surprised at just how much you can get out of even a small outdoor space by enjoying occasional outside meals, laying out back to read a good book, or playing in your back yard with your kids.
There are many projects that you could undertake in order to maximize the enjoyment you get out of your outdoor space. This can start with something as simple as taking steps to remove bugs and other pests that annoy you when you are outside your home. Doing this may be as easy as buying some patio lanterns and putting them outside, which can also add to the ambiance when you are entertaining outdoors at night. But you also may want to talk to your Sacramento remodeling contractor about building a new screen room to keep the bugs away. TITLE: 5 Tips for Outdoor Spaces
NARRATION: Hi, I’m Amy Matthews with five simple tips that’ll make your outdoor space more enjoyable.
First, let’s keep the bugs away. Patio lanterns repel nasty insects like mosquitoes or black flies. Or, you could splurge on screened-in room and enjoy a warm summer night, bug-free. How about that?
Second, outdoor entertaining often carries into the evening hours, so be sure you have some great lighting. Outdoor lamps and hanging lights can be purchased at a home improvement store. And for a little extra pop, think about adding some walkway lights.
Third, extend the life of your deck with simple cleaning, staining, and sealing. A little bit of annual maintenance will help your deck look great and help you avoid unnecessary repairs. Keep in mind that you need two weeks with no rain before you can seal a deck, so if your summers are rainy, do your sealing in the spring or fall.
Fourth, upgrade your deck furniture. The longest lasting outdoor furniture is usually made from synthetic materials, not wood. Any cushions should be washable and weather-resistant. It’s also a good idea to start each summer by washing off last year’s grime.
Fifth, make your patio greener. Adding flowers and plants brightens up any space. Consider all the options, like flower boxes, pots, containers or hanging baskets.
